We have just decided to give miniEditions a spin. 3.4 development will start this week. It usually takes about 2 weeks. Please be patient then
Apart from this, we are going to release a small bugfix release for the DVD Edition (called 3.4e). The “e” stands for “Entropy”, in fact, this will be the first release based on the Entropy chroot. Equo is not yet ready, but this will enable us to start testing it. When the Equo API will be strengthen, it will be time for its GUI, maybe forking some existent application, that’s the Open Source power.
I take the occasion of this post to remember you all that, at least at the moment, Portage and Gentoo compatibility will be kept at the same level that is today. So, easy equation, do you want sources? We’ve got them. Do you want binaries? We’ve got them too.
In 3.4e, we have also added the fixes below:
- Updated Second Life to the latest stable release
- Reverted IPW3945 driver to the old one (keeping IPW4965 support)
- Readded sudo support after install
- Updated Wine to 0.9.42 and fixed Wine Doors
- Fixed ATi issues with Compiz Fusion
- Provided default DNS addresses thanks to OpenDNS
I hope by now everyone has heard that 3.4a is the latest stable release to be released. Some are questioning the a behind the 3.4. No it doesn’t mean alpha, there was a simple revision to 3.4 before release and so it became 3.4a. So, put your fears a side and enjoy the Stable release. Since release, the site has experienced major traffic and is causing things to be a tab bit slow. I guess that is a good sign that there is lots of interest.
Anyway, the purpose of this post is to get the community involved in a little project. The irc room is flooded with compiz-fusion related problems. It seems to effect the ati users the most, so I would like to get as much information as possible to get a list of video cards working with it and any tweaks/setup you had to do to get it working. This would be very valuable information for any one that is struggling. So Please, give us your information. I’d pass out free cookies to every one that helped, but it’s just too hot to bake at the moment.
A lot of questions on the entropy and whether it is implemented into 3.4a. It’s still in the early development stages and lxnay is definitely making progress. Equo is available in the overlay. What is equo you ask? Well in a nut shell, it’s the client for the entropy project. You can find more information here. Remember now, this isn’t any where near stable, but gives you an idea and a progress view of what is coming. Pretty exciting huh?
A quick note on the mini status, no time frame has been mentioned for that yet.
I hope you all are enjoying this wonderful release and don’t forget you can always make a donation.
Today, reading Daniel’s blog my feelings about Gentoo Foundation and about all the people involved there have found the definitive confirm. The Foundation is drifting. Simple, clear (even to my grandmother) and… sad. All the innovation done by them in the latest years is simply rubbish, not integrated at all and sometimes dangerous for the same users (Gentoo Linux Installer as example).
“I set up the Foundation at the request of quite a few extremely vocal Gentoo developers who were tremendously passionate about the need for Gentoo to be rushed into a not-for-profit entity before its time. Unfortunately, it seems that many of these people were enamored with the idea of having a not-for-profit bloom into existence overnight, but weren’t actually interested in doing the hard work required to run a not-for-profit. ” Daniel Robbins.
The only way to save Gentoo, is to give it back to Daniel. Gentoo relengs, if you love your distribution, do this for you and for all the people that still trust it. Every single day you lose a bunch of users, every single day I realize that the whole thing is getting very sad. Attention, I’m preparing the path to fork away from your bugs, definitely. It’s just a matter of time.
Daniel Robbins was the guy that spent his nights working on his creature, it wasn’t a matter of money nor popularity, it was a matter of passion. The same thing that led Gentoo Foundation to the TOP TEN distro arena, and now, it’s just lost in the mists of time.
I was a Gentoo User Representative but these are my official resignations. Oh, I forgot, User Representative Team never worked. Maybe because of you too.
From now on, you can use phpBB/website credentials to login on Planet Sabayon Linux. Enjoy.
The upcoming 3.4 release will be shipped with Wine Doors, think about Crossover Office, in an open source salsa and you have it. It’s at the very first public release but it looks really promising. So, here we are Wine Doors, welcome aboard! Project page here, feel free to make a donation to its great developer Karl.

This is my first post about politics, maybe the last one, but for the Italians laying around here, the 8th of September will be the day where we will be able to say “fuck you” to all our corrupted politicians. Italians are slowly losing their freedom, to speak, to think.
Well, now it’s time to build the final ISO and wait for the final beta testing stage to complete. But in the meantime, enjoy these screenshots (scroll scroll).
I am sure everyone has heard of Chris Pirillo the famous lockergnomie. Well if you haven’t, where you been? Anyway, one of the users in the chat room recommended that Chris try out Sabayon Linux, so he did. He did this show a little over a week ago so some of you may have seen it by now. I can’t post a youtube video in wordpress, but I still want to share it with everyone that has not seen it.
I want to also take a minute here and say thank-you to everyone that is passing the word along to others. Right now we count on each and everyone to help spread the word of Sabayon Linux and when things like this happen it gives the developers are real moral boost! It gets them in the spirit to code more
 So keep spreading the word.
