Finally Fabio gave me the pics of the server, and finally I’ve found some time to publish those pics! As we said on the website, thanks to your donations, the end of the fundraiser allowed us to buy the new servers. And now you can see how we spend your money to give you a better service and the best linux distro ever!
With the money (3000 €) we bought and installed two servers:

WWW server: Dell PowerEdge R200 w/Dual Core CPU, 2/4GB RAM, HW RAID1, 1TB HDx2

2nd Entropy Server: Dell PowerEdge R200 w/Quad Core CPU, 4GB RAM, HW RAID1, 1TB HDx2

And thank to the University of Milan – D.I.S.C.O. Department for giving us the housing of the WWW Server (where Fabio took the pics).

Unluckily, Fabio got the pics with the cellphone, and it’s better as developer than as a photographer. Noone is perfect! Here comes the pics!

First of all, Fabio (on the right), Michele (on the left) and the servers:

Next is a overview of the Server Rack:

And finally a detail of the WWW Server:

Finally I want to say that Sabayon Staff thanks you all again for your support and your donations. You can keep donating to Sabayon if you want to help us improve this distro more and more. And stay tuned, 5.1 will come very soon!

Hi folks, we would like to warn those of you using Limbo repository about a small issue.
We have updated the repository with the latest Xorg, but unfortunately in entropy there is still not a compatible version of nvidia-drivers. This will cause to you of seeing nothing (AKA Blank screen) and no keyboard/mouse working after reboot.
So if you are an Nvidia user, DON’T UPDATE Xorg related packages from Limbo!
If you want to do, you will have to compile nvidia-drivers on your own.
If you broke your system, your solution is to find a way to downgrade the packages using official repository OR use opensource drivers instead of proprietary drivers (“nv” instead of “nvidia” or “ati” instead of “fglrx” in /etc/X11/xorg.conf).
I remind you all that Limbo repository is for TESTING purpose ONLY! So if you are not an expert user, please be careful.

Cheers,

Sabayon 4.1 KDE will be released soon. Once this is released, the development team will start to concentrate on the branch 5 to move Sabayon Linux into the future.

Due to the age of this release and the numerous changes to Sabayon since then, we have decided that the 3.5 entropy branch has outlived it’s usefulness. Its done a great job, but with newer versions released, It it time to EOL the 3.5 branch

The SUPPORT for the 3.5 branch will END ON 1st June 2009, so 3.5 users MUST upgrade to branch 4 or use Portage to work with packages. We believe a month is ample time to learn about the changes and due the necessary updates if you haven’t done so already. After this date, the only support for the 3.5 branch will be to help you upgrade to the 4 branch..

One month later, on 1st July 2009, the 3.5 Entropy branch WILL NO LONGER BE AVAILABLE on our servers, and the chroot we used to build packages will be archived. If you are still running Sabayon 3.5 or 3.51, be make sure to take care of your upgrades prior to July 1, or you will need to do a fresh install of a newer version. We do our best to keep Sabayon as a rolling release distro, but due to time and space constraints, the most logical course of action is to drop support for the oldest version as well as retiring the entropy repository for the 3.5 branch.

We suggest to upgrade your system to branch 4 to have a even better experience!

Easter is arriving and i promised to start writing something on the blog and on the website.
First thing i want to say is that Fabio is still with us, Joost’s April fool has been funny to read. (joost, STFU now till next year!)

I’m used to be connected to the Irc #sabayon channel the more often I can, but I noticed that often is silent, but that maybe because I’m there when users are working/studying.
I think the Irc is an important way to let us (staff) and you (users) to communicate and help togheter:
- we help you to fix your problems and LEARN something new about linux
- you help us to know what issues are present on our release so we can try to fix those in future releases, or help other users to fix the same problems.

Today happened exactly this, a guy in the channel asked how to fix a problem, we found that sabayon were missing something and we fixed that on real time. (Many thanks)

We have a lot of tools to receive your feedback but i think that “talking” is the better way.
And remember to be patient, the staff on IRC has other thousand things to do, so dont mess with us if u don’t have an answer quickly, we do our best.
AND PLEASE : read the channel topic BEFORE posting. And don’t ask if u can ask, just do it.

We have some rules to be followed on Irc to give you the best experience and don’t let staff to become mad!
We are waiting for you on IRC! There is also a #sabayon-social chan to let u talk about anything else (puters, cars, girls, etc…) without breaking balls on the support channel. So, use it!

About Sabayon 4.1 i’ll show you a little preview on what you’ll find in gnome. You should expect good news in few days. So, STAY TUNED!

PS: I’m sorry for my poor english, but here in Venice I don’t speak it often.
