I just wanted to say I love Sabayon. I'm not that great with Linux, but I've tried over 10 of them out and Sabayon is by far the best imo. There is probably better OS's for a first time Linux user, and it would be nice if everything worked out the box, but nevertheless it's the most accommodating towards end-users. I've yet to a linux that runs on every computer perfectly.

I agree with the 'missing a big one' issue (stupot); but speaking from Cambodia I can tell you I wish there where more tests, and fewer updates of better, hardened code :) This go deep into the Pros&Cons of OpenSource debate, I know, but 3-figures-Mb updates quite every week is a drain... Notwithstanding the fact that if something is broken, and that happens, you have to do it all over again. I am not complaining about Sabayon, mind you, most every reasonably modern distro face the same issue.
Yes, each time my systems tells me there are xxx updates available, I go back to the Slackware Principle: Don't fix it if it ain't broken.
Actually, when I see these warnings, I would only do something after reviewing if the features I wait for are implemented, or the bugs that bother me are fixed.
Otherwise, I stay put. Again: Why fix it if it ain't broken?
[currently fighting 3G connectivity, Bluetooth filesharing and obscure drivers compilation]

All the best, and thanks for the commitment

Omar ha scritto il seguente: "Il problema, secondo me, non è tanto il numero di aggiornamenti, ma i possibili “danni” che essi creano ad un utente alle prime armi."

When I have many many updates, I'm not necessarily scared of the number, rather I'm nervous that I'm going to overlook an important one (i.e. a kernel update and forget to install the video drivers that go along with it afterwards).

I'm also nervous that I'll accidentally overlook a config file that I should preserve and end up overwriting it, but I'm getting better at that.
